A Short Prayer to Find Lost Things

It’s true that nothing under the sun is hidden. However, for us humans, things could sometimes be, but with God, nothing is. As we pray, God will lead us to find the things we have lost, irrespective of their value.

In 1 Samuel 9:1-20, Saul, the first king of Israel, was out searching for his father’s donkeys, which had gone missing. After searching for three days, Saul and his servant were about to give up when they met Samuel whom God led to reveal the location of the donkeys. Samuel told Saul that the donkeys had been found and that he was the one God had chosen to be the next king of Israel.

God is always with us, even in our smallest struggles. It’s not only when we come in between the devil and the deep blue sea that He shows up. Since God could help Saul find his lost donkeys, He can also help us find what we have lost, whether it is physical items, relationships, or even our sense of purpose. As we pray with faith, God will guide us to where we have to search.

Prayer to Find Lost Things

Let’s pray.

1. May Heavens Help Me to Be Calm So I Can Trace My Lost Item

Our Father,

I am about to begin my search but I am calling on your name to give me peace and calm. I’m currently in the midst of my frustration and worry, so please grant me this request. I have lost an important item, and I feel overwhelmed and anxious about finding it.

Please, Help me to take a deep breath. Your word in Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”

As I search for my lost item, I believe you will bless my heart with calmness. You’ll help my brain stay focused, and my mind clear and sharp. May I think clearly and methodically, and be able to retrace my steps. Help me, oh Lord, to remember the last place I had it. I want to be patient and also believe in your sovereignty. Take control of all things.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

2. Prayer to Carefully Double Check the Usual Places

Dear God,

What I need now is to be diligent and thorough in my search. I need your involvement because it’ll help me carefully double-check the usual places where I normally keep this thing. Doesn’t your word say in Proverbs 24:3-4 that “by wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures”? Help me, oh Lord, not to overlook the obvious places where I might have kept it. Help me to think logically, and be able to retrace my steps. If I can remember the last place I had it, then I might find it there. May my search be fruitful, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

3. As I Revisit the Past, May You Reveal Where to Find My Missing Item

Dear Father,

Without your intervention, I may not have the perfect wisdom to locate my missing item. Help me to revisit the past, search my memory, and recall the last time I had it. I know You can do this for me because, in Isaiah 46:9, You have said, “I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.” This right here is the reason I am coming before you, and you alone because you see all things.

If it is your will, as I walk through past events in my mind, help me to jog my memory and recall the details of where I last had my item.

Keep my mind clear and sharp. I want to be able to recall even the smallest details that might lead me to its location. I believe in your sovereignty and I know that you are always with me. Lead me to the right place where I can reunite with this thing. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

4. Help Me Retrace My Steps, Oh Lord

Oh Lord,

I can only physically retrace my steps to find my missing belongings. However, you have the supernatural advantage of Helping me visit each spot where I last had it. I may not remember or think of such places but you can take me there. As I will be standing in those places, please reveal clues that will lead me to its discovery. Your word in Psalm 37:23 says, “The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him.” Please, make firm and guide my steps.

I pray for my feet to be guided by your Spirit. Lead me to the exact place where my item is. I trust in your providence, and I know that you are always working for my good. May my search be fruitful, and may I find what I am looking for, to the glory of your name. Amen.

5. May I Not Make Any Mess as I Carefully Look for This Thing

God in Heaven,

I am more than likely to disorganize my home, car or office while looking for a valuable item I have lost. Only if you intervene, then I will have the wisdom not to make a mess while searching. I pray that you make me diligent and thorough in my search, but may I not make any mess or overlook any potential hideout. As I search, help me to be methodical. Being systematic and careful will guide me to examine each area where I last had this item. May I be willing to clean up and organize my space, even if it’s messy, to see if my item is hiding in plain sight.

Help me on this one, oh Lord, because this item means a lot to me. I need to find it to stop this feeling of frustration lingering in me. If it is your will that I’ll find this thing, then so be in. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

6. Oh Heavens, Give Me Help from Above

Dear Father,

If it’ll be hard for me to do this alone, send me Heavenly assistance. I know that two heads are often better than one, and I am willing to ask for help from friends and family members who can offer a fresh perspective and new ideas. Whomever I will involve in this search, may You fill them with your wisdom to trace this item.

In Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, it is written:

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.

Dear God, help me to be open to ideas from others. May their input help me think of new places to search and new ways to handle my search. I know you’ll help me accept help from above, knowing that you are always looking out for me. Glory be to your name. Amen.
