Whether it’s your family member, friend, or partner writing an examination, prayer can spiritually guide them to succeed. In this powerful prayer, we will pray for God to intervene, even if it means guiding the hands of the student, and helping them study the right materials and topics, and remembering the answers to the questions. Remember the four young men – Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah – who were taken captive by King Nebuchadnezzar and enrolled in a prestigious training program. The king wanted them to serve in his court, but Daniel and his friends were determined to remain faithful to God.
When the king tested them with a difficult exam, they prayed to God for wisdom, and He answered. Blessed them with knowledge, skill, and wisdom that surpassed all the other students.
Prayer for Someone Writing Exams
Now, visualize your friend or the person who will be taking this examination. We will pray with Bible verses. Say this prayer.
1. Prayer for them to have enough time to study
Dear God,
I offer this powerful prayer to pass an exam for my friend, [Name] as they prepare. Help them create a good study schedule and give them the discipline to stick to it. May they not leave anything for the last minute, but instead, write down how many exams they have, how many pages they have to learn, and the days they have left. Guide them as they organize their study habits accordingly.
Provide this person with a comfortable study space, with enough space on their desk to spread their textbooks and notes. May they pay attention and remove anything that can distract them from their study.
I pray that you will teach [the person’s name] your ways of discipline and time management and that they will be able to focus and concentrate on their studies. Give them the desire to practice with old exams, and help them to see the format and formulation of the questions. May Your spirit be with them as they revise their study material.
Amen.
2. Dear God, Remind my friend to Practice on old exams
I pray for You to Help them to trust in you, and not in their own abilities. May they remember that you are the one who gives wisdom. As the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 1:30, “It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.” I pray that [Name] will rely on your wisdom. Help them to stay focused under pressure, and to remember everything they have studied. May they be able to apply what they have learned, and answer the questions with confidence. Thank you, Lord, for your presence and your power in their life.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
3. Short Prayer for someone to Organize study groups with friends
Our Father in Heaven,
Help my friend organize a study group with other colleagues, and may this group focus on the subject and not get distracted. Help them to be able to work together to get the answers they need and complete tasks faster. I pray for them to know to explain answers to each other, and for this process to help them clarify their own understanding of the material.
We have been reminded in Proverbs 27:17 that “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” I pray that my family member and his/her colleagues will sharpen each other’s minds as they study together. May they be able to work together, and to learn from one another. Thank you, Lord. In Jesus’ name.
Amen.
4. Prayer for this person to Take regular breaks
Dear God,
As this person is studying for their exams, please, Help them to remember to take regular breaks, and not try to study for too long without resting. May they understand that long-term retention of knowledge requires breaks, and that their brain needs time to regain its focus. I pray for them to develop a routine that suits their study style, and know to prioritize their physical and mental health.
Encourage them to choose natural, fresh, and vitamin-rich food that will improve their concentration and memory.
You have said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” I bring my friends to, Lord. When they are weary and burdened, please give them rest. Thank you, Lord, for your care for their well-being.
Amen
5. Prayer for someone to plan the day of their exams
“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?” (Luke 14:28)
Dear God,
As they prepare for their exams, help them to plan their day, and know all the rules and requirements for the exam. Father, they will also need heavenly wisdom to plan their route and the time it may take to reach the destination of the exams. Help them to add on some extra time to avoid any last-minute stress. As they arrive at the exam hall, may they feel composed and confident, and ready to take on the task at hand. Thank you, Lord, for your concern, and I pray that Your love sees them through this challenge. Amen.
6. Prayer for someone to read the exam instructions carefully
Dear God,
I pray for [Name] as they sit for their exams. Help them to take the first five minutes to skim the exam and read the instructions carefully. May they understand the format and requirements of the exam, and may they make a plan for answering different types of questions. Give them the wisdom to read instructions in each section of the exam, and may they ask for clarification if something is unclear to them. May they be thorough and meticulous in their approach, and may they avoid any mistakes or misunderstandings. As the Bible says in Proverbs 4:7, “Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do! And with your wisdom, develop good judgment and common sense.” I pray that [Name] will seek wisdom and understanding as they take their exams, and that they will be guided by your wisdom and discernment. Thank you, Lord, for your presence and guidance.
7. Remind them to start with the easiest questions
Dear God,
As my loved one will be taking their exams, please help them to read through the papers and mark the questions they think will be the easiest. May they answer these questions first to help them build confidence before moving on to the harder ones.
Give them wisdom to estimate how much time and detail they need to include in their answer, based on the weight of each section and question. May they avoid answering questions too quickly or too slowly, and may they provide sufficient and accurate information in their responses. I pray that they will be guided by your word and your wisdom as they take their exams, and that they will walk in confidence. Amen.
8. Prayer for this person to pace himself during the examination
Father in Heaven,
As my loved one and friend take their exams, help them to allocate their time correctly. Guide them to tell which questions require more time and planning, such as multi-part and problem-based questions. May they avoid rushing through these questions and providing insufficient information or incorrect answers. At the same time, may they avoid answering too slowly and running out of time. Help them to be mindful of what types of questions they still need to answer, how difficult they will be, and how much time is left. It’s even mentioned in the Bible in Ephesians 5:15-16 to “be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” My prayer is for this person to make the most of every opportunity during their exams, and make careful decisions, while also trusting in your guidance. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
9. Dear God, remind them to cross-check their work before submission
Help them to complete their exams on time, and remember to review their work before submitting it. May they go through their exam thoroughly to ensure that they have answered all the questions. May they pay close attention to the questions they had trouble with. Give them the wisdom to double-check their answers, and be careful not to change answers they felt extremely confident in answering when they started the exam. May they trust their gut on those questions and have confidence in their abilities.
I pray that they will do their best to present their work correctly, Lord, with confidence and accuracy, and that they will be proud of their efforts. Thank you, Lord, for your guidance and wisdom.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen!
