In Joseph’s story, what we often overlook is that Joseph’s journey started with a bad dream – his own brothers’ plot to get rid of him (Genesis 37:18-27). Yet, God turned that bad dream into a blessing. This is the power of God’s promises in the Psalms.
The Psalms are a collection of powerful prayers, songs, and poetry that remind us that God is always there for us, even in our darkest moments. He can cancel and turn our bad dreams into testimonies. Right now, we will meditate on the Psalms, and tap into God’s power to cancel bad dreams and replace them with His promises of peace, protection, and deliverance.
Psalms to Cancel Bad Dreams
1. Psalm 91 – Protection and safety from spiritual attack
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalm 91:1)
Lord, hide me under Your shadow, and keep me safe from harm.
Protect me from the enemy, and keep me secure in Your love.
Let Your angels guard and keep me in Your will.
May Your presence be my refuge, and Your love be my fortress.
I claim Your promise of protection, and rest in Your care.
Keep me close to You, and never let me go.
2. Psalm 23 – God’s guidance and peace
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters. (Psalm 23:1-2)
Lord, be my Shepherd, and guide. Fill my heart with peace.
Lead me to still waters, and restore my soul.
May Your rod and staff comfort me, and keep me on the right path.
I claim Your promise of guidance, and follow Your lead.
May Your presence be my peace, and Your love be my comfort.
3. Psalm 35 – Deliverance from evil dreams
Plead my cause, O Lord, with those who strive with me;
Fight against those who fight against me. (Psalm 35:1)
Oh God, plead my cause, and fight for me against my enemies.
Deliver me from evil, and break every evil curse in my life.
May Your angels war for me, and keep me safe from harm.
May Your presence be my strength, and Your love be my shield.
Never let me go, oh Lord.
4. Psalm 5 – God’s mercy and grace
Give ear to my words, O Lord,
Consider my meditation.
Give heed to the voice of my cry,
My King and my God,
For to You I will pray. (Psalm 5:1-2)
Hear my prayer, and consider my heart’s cry.
Thank You for Your mercy, and pour out Your grace upon me.
May Your love be my comfort, and Your presence be my peace.
I claim Your promise of forgiveness, and rest in Your care.

5. Psalm 141: Protection from evil thoughts
Lord, I cry out to You;
Make haste to me!
Give ear to my voice when I cry out to You. (Psalm 141:1)
Father in Heaven, hear my cry, and come quickly to my aid.
Protect me from the enemy’s snares, and keep me safe from harm.
May Your presence be my shield, and Your love be my fortress.
Thank You for Your angels, who keep me from evil thoughts.
I claim Your protection, may Your presence be my peace, and Your love be my comfort.
6. Psalm 3 – Deliverance from fear
Lord, how they have increased who trouble me!
Many are they who rise up against me.
Many are they who say of me,
‘There is no help for him in God.’ (Psalm 3:1-2)
Lord, how many rise up against me with evil dreams! But You, O Lord, are my shield and my glory; You lift up my head and deliver me from fear.
I will not be afraid of the terrors that come in the night, for You are with me.
You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the wicked.
Salvation belongs to You, Lord, and Your blessing is upon Your people.
7. Psalm 121 – God’s watchful care
I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:1-2)
I lift up my eyes to the hills, where my help comes from. You, O Lord, are my Maker and my Keeper; You watch over me and keep me from harm. You neither slumber nor sleep, and You are always vigilant, watching over me. You are my shade at my right hand, and the sun shall not strike me by day, nor the moon by night. You will keep me from all evil and preserve my soul; You will keep my going out and my coming in, from this time forth and forevermore.

What Bible Verse Cancels Bad Dreams?
it is possible to cancel bad dreams.
Psalm 91:5 says,
“You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day.”
God has promised that we do not need to fear anything that comes in the night. Whether it’s nightmares, attacks, or any form of spiritual terror, He is more than able to cancel them.
Just like Joseph in the Bible who had dreams that carried divine messages, we must also understand that not every dream is from God. Some are planted by the enemy to create fear and confusion. But when we declare the Word of God over our minds and sleep, those bad dreams lose their power.
But you have to mean business and be ready to stand firm in prayer, knowing that God’s Word is a weapon.

Though Daniel was surrounded by enemies who wished him harm, he trusted God and was protected even when he was thrown into the lion’s den. The lions, just like the bad dreams we face, had no power over him because God was his shield.
